Live In A Snowy Region? 2 Tips To Keep Your Business Asphalt Parking Lot In Good Condition

If you have your own business with a parking lot and you live in a snowy region, you need to take precautions to protect your parking lot. This is because a lot of snow and ice can wreak havoc on asphalt over time. Fortunately, there are many things you can do to keep your parking lot in good condition, two of which are listed below.

Hire A Snow Removal Service

The most important thing you can do is to keep as much snow as you can off your parking lot. This will not only help keep your parking lot in good condition but will also be safer for your customers. You do not want a customer slipping and sliding on the snow/ice, falling down, and then becoming injured. This could come back on you to pay their medical bills. You should consider using rock salt near the entrances of your building on days when there is a lot of snow and ice built up. Salt will not harm asphalt if you do not leave it on your driveway/walkway for long periods of time.

A snow removal service generally charges you by the square footage of your parking lot. If you have the snow removal service sand or salt your parking lot in any areas, you will have to pay more for this service. Have a snow plowing service already chosen so you can contact them when they are needed. You do not want to wait until you need snow removed and have a hard time finding a company to do it for you.

Sealcoat Your Parking Lot

If your parking lot does not have a sealant on it or has been a long time since it has been sealed, this is a great way to protect your asphalt from snow and ice. Sealcoating will help make your parking lot last much longer. This is because the sealant fills in current damage on the parking lot and then protects the asphalt from things like water, fluids that leak from vehicles, or damage from the sun's rays.

You can purchase sealant at any home improvement store and seal your driveway on your own. Just make sure you buy enough sealant to put two layers on your parking lot. You must let the first layer of sealant completely dry before putting on the second. If your parking lot is large or you are very busy, you should hire a professional to sealcoat your parking lot for you.

You can also keep your parking lot protected by repairing surface damage, such as cracks or small holes, that may be on the asphalt.
