3 Different Types Of Eco-Friendly Collars For Your Precious Dog

In many states, you have to have your dog on a leash when you take them to public places. Having your dog on a leash helps keep your dog and others safe when you are in public spaces. Not all collars and harnesses are the same though, so you need to find the right eco-friendly collar that works for your dog.

Eco-Friendly Collar Type #1: Martingale Collar

A martingale collar falls into the family of slip collars. With a martingale collar, you can set the tightness of the collar to two different levels. The first level is the relaxed level when the collar is on your dog without a leash; the second level is how far the collar tightened when the dog pulls on the leash.

By being able to independently set the second level, which is activated when your dog pulls on their leash, you can prevent your dog from experiencing throat damage. The leash attaches directly to a center loop on the collar, which controls if the collar tightens up at all.

This collar style works well for dogs that need a reminder to wait for you, without harming your dog.

Eco-Friendly Collar Type #2: Flat-Buckle Collar

A flat buckle collar is the most basic type of collar that there is. This is a regular collar that has either a buckle or a snap to keep it closed. It also has a small ring on it that you can attach a leash to. Many people always keep a flat-buckle collar on their dog with their identification tags attached. As far as walking your dog out in public, this type of collar works best if your dog always follows your lead when you take them outside.

Eco-Friendly Collar Type #3: Body Harness

Although not technically a collar, a body harness fulfills the function of a collar. A body harness is typically used on smaller dogs who can easily experience throat damage with a traditional style of collar, although they can be used on larger dogs as well.

With a body collar, the collar goes around your dog's legs and fits around their upper body. There is a ring on the top of the harness for a leash to attach. Keep in mind that if you use a body harness on a larger dog, it may require more strength on your part to slow your dog down if they don't follow your instructions.

Once you determine what type of collar your dog needs, be sure to purchase an eco-friendly collar that is made from recycled or sustainable materials. Your dog may not know the difference, but you will. For more information, reach out to suppliers of recycled dog collars.
